Museum Haus Hansestadt Danzig, Cultural heritage museum in Old Town, Lübeck, Germany.
Museum Haus Hansestadt Danzig is housed in a brick building from the late 13th century and displays objects and exhibits about Danzig's regional heritage. The building stands in Lübeck's historical center and documents aspects of this medieval port city.
The brick building dates from the late 13th century and once belonged to wealthy merchant families of the Hanseatic city of Danzig. A preservation group later acquired it and opened a museum in 1981 to keep the region's memory alive.
The entrance hall recreates how a Danzig townhouse looked inside, with maps showing German place names and lists of people who lived there. This setup gives visitors a sense of everyday life in the region.
The museum has limited opening hours, so it makes sense to ask about times or call ahead before visiting. Plan to spend a few hours here and keep in mind it sits in the heart of the Old Town.
The museum's courtyard holds three church bells from Wotzlaff and Danzig that were rescued from a bell cemetery in Hamburg after World War II. These rare objects tell a story of how cultural items from the region escaped destruction and found shelter.
