Koberg 2, Historic town house in Lübeck's Old City, Germany
Koberg 2 is a double house at the corner of Königstrasse and Breite Strasse in Lübeck's Old City. The building shows classic brick Gothic style with tall gables and narrow vertical windows typical of wealthy residences from this period.
After the great fire of 1276, Lübeck's authorities ordered wooden structures replaced with stone buildings, leading to reconstruction with brick. This house was built during this major rebuilding period and ranks among the oldest surviving residences.
The building displays the brick Gothic style that shaped the city, showing how wealthy merchants designed their homes to reflect their status. You can see in the facade and window designs how much craftsmanship and beauty mattered to them.
The house sits at a clearly visible corner location with easy foot access through the Old City. If you want to view this building, keep in mind it remains a private residence and is best seen from the street outside.
The house stood at the edge of Koberg square, where market activities and court proceedings once took place. This central spot made it an observation point for the busy happenings of the medieval city.
