Humboldt-Schule

Humboldt-Schule sits between Klopstockstraße and Humboldtstraße in the Schreventeich neighborhood and displays neo-Gothic architectural details throughout. The structure was built as a typical school facility with distinctive design features of this style.

The school was founded in 1861 as a higher boys' school and initially served about 260 students across five grade levels. It moved to its current location in 1877, where it has remained since.

The school maintains partnerships with institutions across Japan, Poland, the United States, and France. Students regularly participate in exchange programs that connect them with peers from these countries.

The building is easily accessible on foot in the Schreventeich neighborhood and close to public transportation. Visitors should know this is an active school facility, so visits during regular school hours may be limited.

The historic wing received protected monument status in 1976, making it the first school in Kiel to achieve this designation. This early recognition shows how much the architecture was already valued by the city.
