Katz’scher Garten, Baroque sculpture garden in Gernsbach, Germany.
Katz'scher Garten is a baroque sculpture garden in Gernsbach situated along the Murg river bank. Classical architectural features and diverse exotic plants shape its landscaped grounds.
The garden came into being in the early 19th century when an Italian landscape architect designed it for the wealthy Katz family. Later, Johanna Katz significantly shaped the place by bringing historical art objects over several decades.
The garden holds stonework and ironwork pieces that Johanna Katz gathered over decades, shaping how the space looks and feels today. These objects reflect old craftsmanship traditions and give the place its distinctive character.
The garden is within walking distance from Gernsbach train station, about 300 meters toward the city center until you reach the cast-iron entrance gate. The grounds are easy to access and allow for peaceful walks along the riverbank.
Two magnolia trees from the first half of the 19th century remain in the garden as the oldest specimens of their kind in Germany. These trees recall the original botanical vision of the Italian-designed landscape.
