Gernsbach, Medieval town in Black Forest region, Germany.

Gernsbach is a town in the Black Forest region that spreads across both sides of the Murg valley. Half-timbered buildings line narrow streets, and forested slopes rise all around, creating a landscape where the river and mountains are never far from view.

In 1219 the Counts of Eberstein founded the first settlements in the Murg valley, starting the town's development. Over the following centuries, it grew prosperous thanks to forest resources and the papermaking industry.

Papermaking traditions shaped the town's identity for centuries and left a deep mark on how people work and live. You still see this heritage reflected in the buildings and in how the community values its crafts.

The town sits about 7 kilometers from Baden-Baden and connects easily to major roads and railways. Since forests cover most of the surrounding area, walking routes through the wooded slopes are a main way to explore the region.

The Old Town Hall was built between 1617 and 1618 as a private mansion for a wealthy paper merchant. This building tells you how much money and power the paper industry brought to the town.
