Meschede District, Administrative district in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
The Meschede district was an administrative area within the Arnsberg region of North Rhine-Westphalia, encompassing several municipalities across a substantial territory. The landscape featured river valleys and forests characteristic of the Ruhr industrial region.
The administrative district was established in 1832 as a separate entity within the region. In 1974, it ceased to exist as an independent administrative division when it merged with other districts to form the larger Hochsauerlandkreis.
The town of Meschede, serving as the district's administrative center, held membership in the Hanseatic League from 1572. This historical status shaped the identity of the community and remains part of its local character.
The area was accessible through federal roads B7 and B55, which provided key connections to nearby cities and regions. The railway station in Meschede served as the main transport hub for travelers moving between different areas.
The Veltins Brewery, one of the region's major brewing facilities, was located within the district and shaped its economy for generations. This industrial operation brought employment and made the area known for beer production.
