Hendrich's Drop Forge

Hendrich's Drop Forge is a museum building with preserved workshop facilities from the era of scissor making. The site displays working drop hammers, forges, and all the equipment needed to produce high-quality scissors.

The forge was founded in 1886 and grew into the largest drop hammer workshop in Solingen. It produced scissors for over a century until production ended in 1986.

The hammer strikes here represent a craft tradition that shaped Solingen for generations. Visitors see how the work looked and understand why this skill mattered so much to the city.

The site is open to visitors on most days, with regular demonstrations of forging processes. It helps to ask in advance about guided tours, which offer deeper insight into the workshops.

An original mansion from 1896 with a winter garden still stands on the grounds, showing how prosperous the owners had become. Today it serves as a cafe where visitors can rest and have refreshments.
