Naturbühne Hohensyburg, Sylvan theater in Hörde district, Dortmund, Germany.
Naturbühne Hohensyburg is an outdoor theater set in a valley sloping down toward the Ruhr River and surrounded by forest. It has one main amphitheater seating around 800 people and a smaller covered hall with about 80 seats used during colder months.
The theater was founded in 1952 with its first performance of "Wetterleuchten auf Sigiburg". Amateur theater groups have presented productions here continuously since that inaugural opening.
Local theater groups perform here throughout the year, bringing stories to audiences seated among the trees. The setting in nature shapes how the productions feel, making the forest itself part of the theatrical experience.
The venue is accessible by buses 432, 442, and 544 and sits within a wooded area that is easy to explore on foot. Visits are most enjoyable during summer months when outdoor performances run and weather conditions are comfortable.
The theater uses the natural slope of the land as its amphitheater, with the forest itself serving as the backdrop. This merging of nature and performance creates a dialogue between the actors and their surroundings that indoor stages cannot replicate.
