The castle is a large stone building with symmetrical wings on both sides, tall windows, and a prominent central entrance portal. Inside, rooms are decorated with ceiling paintings and stucco work that show how wealthy residents once used these spaces.

The original building was erected in the mid-15th century as a residence for a regional margrave. A devastating fire in the mid-18th century caused extensive damage, but the castle was rebuilt and transformed into its current form.

The castle houses the Bayreuth City Museum, displaying everyday objects and furnishings that show how people lived through different periods. Walking through the rooms, visitors see personal items and decorations that reveal what mattered to residents across centuries.

The castle is located in the city center and is easily reachable on foot. Visitors should allow time to walk through the rooms, and guided tours in multiple languages can be arranged.

The ceilings in several rooms feature elaborate stucco work depicting mythological scenes from the 18th century. These skillfully crafted decorations remain in their original form and show the craftsmanship of that era.
