Polizeipräsidium Oberbayern, Polizeipräsidium mit Sitz in München
The Polizeipräsidium Oberbayern building in Munich is a police headquarters located on the grounds of a former monastery, housing over a thousand officers and staff. The complex includes basement training facilities, office spaces, temporary holding cells, and specialized rooms for emergency response preparation.
The building was constructed on the grounds of a former monastery and served as headquarters for the Polizeipräsidium Oberbayern, overseeing large portions of the Upper Bavarian region. Until 2009, the headquarters functioned as a central authority before being dissolved, with its duties divided between new police administrations in Rosenheim and Ingolstadt.
The building is located on Knorrstrasse in the Milbertshofen district and is not fully open to the public. Visitors interested in police work can sometimes arrange guided tours that show training areas, the emergency control center, and historical sections.
The building preserves a desk over a hundred years old from Munich's first police chief in 1914, where the current police president still works today. The premises also house a small museum displaying objects related to crime history, including items connected to a 1972 attack.
