Schloss Tinz is a three-story baroque building in Gera featuring symmetrical wings, large windows, and a central entrance portal. Classical architectural details define the facade and create a harmonious overall impression of the structure.
The castle was built between 1745 and 1748 as a summer residence for Count Heinrich XXV Reuss zu Gera. It later served as a military hospital during both World Wars before becoming an educational facility.
The castle was transformed from an aristocratic residence into a place for study and teaching. Today students use the former state rooms as lecture halls and seminar spaces, giving the building new purpose in the lives of young people.
The building is used by students for lectures and seminar work and also contains a university library. The main entrance provides access to the various study areas inside.
The castle's ground sits on the site of a medieval moated fortress. The current structure thus brings together elements from different historical periods in one location.
