Schwedenschanze, Medieval ring fortification in Kelsterbach, Germany.

The oval defensive structure measures 55 meters by 40 meters and sits 100 meters above sea level at the edge of Kirschenallee.

The fortification was constructed between the 8th and 10th centuries as a refuge fortress with walls and buildings made primarily of wood.

The site gained a new purpose in 1860 when it became a venue for local singing and gymnastic festivals following the creation of a western access route.

Visitors can reach the archaeological site by taking S8 or S9 train lines to Kelsterbach station, with unrestricted access and no entry fees.

The name derives from a local legend claiming Swedish forces used this location to attack the nearby Wolfenburg Castle during the Thirty Years War.
