Schloss Oberherrlingen, Renaissance castle in Blaustein, Germany.
Schloss Oberherrlingen is a Renaissance castle in Blaustein positioned on a small ridge overlooking the Kleinen Lauertal. The three-story structure is crowned with two pointed gables that give it a distinctive profile.
The original Burg Horningen was built in the 11th century and suffered destruction multiple times during regional conflicts. In 1588 it rose again as a Renaissance castle after Dietrich von Bernhausen and his wife undertook a comprehensive rebuild.
The castle displays its Renaissance redesign through architectural choices that reflect the owners' vision and status of the time. An inscription stone from 1588 in the vestibule commemorates Dietrich von Bernhausen and his wife Helena, who directed the castle's reconstruction after it had suffered major damage.
The castle operates as an agricultural establishment today and is not open for interior tours. Visitors can view the building's facade and distinctive outline from the adjacent road and nearby hiking trails.
Above the castle stands the Maria Hilf pilgrimage chapel built in 1708, which dominates the landscape as a slender landmark. This chapel connects religious devotion with the architectural story of the entire hilltop complex.
