The construction of Spitteleck occurred between 1980 and 1985 under the direction of architect Eckart Schmidt during the German Democratic Republic period.
The concrete facade incorporates decorative elements depicting animals, flowers, and children, representing the architectural preferences of East German design.
The structure contains 295 apartments, two retail spaces, a restaurant, and a daycare facility, serving residential and commercial needs in central Berlin.
A Coca-Cola illuminated sign was installed on the building's roof in 1991, following German reunification, marking the transition from socialist to capitalist era.
