Synagoge und Gemeindezentrum Hospitalstraße, Religious building in Hospitalviertel, Stuttgart, Germany
The Synagogue and Community Center Hospitalstraße features a cubic prayer hall flanked by two wings with a three-sided women's gallery encircling the prayer space. The facility also includes a kindergarten, community rooms, a ritual bath, and kosher dining facilities.
Built in 1951-1952, it rose on the site of the earlier synagogue destroyed during the November 1938 pogrom in Stuttgart. The reconstruction represented the community's effort to restore its religious infrastructure after the war.
The synagogue serves as a gathering place for the Jewish Religious Community of Württemberg, hosting services, study groups, and community events. Visitors experience the living religious and social practices that shape the community's cultural life.
Located at Hospitalstraße 36, this center serves multiple functions with dedicated spaces for prayer, learning, and community gatherings. Visitors should remember this is an active community space where consideration and respect for ongoing activities is important.
The building's windows were designed by artist Dr. Ulrich Knufinke with colorful rectangular patterns that flood the interior with light. This is complemented by a bronze sculpture titled 'Burning Bush' positioned near the entrance.
