Orangerie Schwerin

Orangerie Schwerin is a 19th-century greenhouse building within the castle complex, defined by extensive glass windows and neoclassical columns. Its high ceilings and light-filled interior create an elegant space that once protected tropical plants during winter months.

The building was constructed in the mid-1800s as a winter shelter for the ducal court's citrus trees and exotic plants. It emerged during the castle's major expansion period when it was transformed into a grand state residence.

The space now hosts rotating art exhibitions and musical performances throughout the year. Visitors experience the blend of historical architecture with contemporary cultural programming in this repurposed setting.

The building is accessible through guided tours of the castle complex and has facilities for visitors with reduced mobility. Wearing sturdy shoes is recommended, as paths to the castle can be uneven and interior floors are polished stone.

The structure sustained damage during the war but was painstakingly restored to its original form and proportions. This reconstruction reveals the region's commitment to recovering cultural heritage.
