Sculpture of Gottfried Semper

This bronze memorial on Brühl's Terrace depicts a standing figure holding a partially unrolled architectural drawing in his hands. The decorated stone base features lion head ornaments and sits on the northern section of the terrace overlooking the river.

The memorial was erected in 1892 when the city government and regional authorities refused to fund the project. The German Association of Architects and Engineers stepped in to finance this lasting tribute instead.

The statue honours an architect whose designs shaped Dresden's character. Visitors stand at a place where the connection between creative vision and the city's physical form becomes visible.
