Gesellschaftshaus Grünau, Historic dance hall and restaurant in Grünau, Germany
Gesellschaftshaus Grünau is a heritage building located along the Dahme River banks, originally designed as an assembly venue. The interior features spacious ceilings and a large ballroom structure that combines classical elegance with functional spaces.
The complex began as a beer house in 1874 and expanded in 1888 to become the Riviera House to meet growing entertainment demands. During the 20th century, the building experienced several phases of use and transformation that reflected its importance to the city's cultural life.
The house was an important gathering place for Berlin society and drew visitors from across the city. Its role as an entertainment venue shaped social life in the area for many decades.
The site underwent comprehensive renovation between 2016 and 2021 and is now accessible as a protected cultural monument with a modern residential complex. Visitors should note that access and opening hours may be limited due to the current use of the property.
The original brick facade was covered with gray stucco in 1957 when structural maintenance work was performed. This layer conceals the historic brick structure and documents practical renovation measures from the mid-20th century.
