From 1952 to 1989, this facility held over 5,000 political prisoners under the control of East Germany's Ministry for State Security.

The museum offers guided tours in German and English, with admission prices of 2 euros for adults and free entry on the first Tuesday of each month.
A glass cube in the courtyard marks the location where citizens first occupied a Stasi headquarters during the 1989 Peaceful Revolution.
