The earliest documented reference to a water castle at this site dates to 1190, when it was owned by Heinrich and Otto von Zedtlitz. The location remained under the family's control for centuries until different eras brought changes to its ownership and use.
Culture
The composer Albert Lortzing visited this location in 1840 and drew inspiration for his opera 'Der Wildschütz' during his time here. The residence became known among creative circles as a place where artistic ideas could flourish and take root.
