Schießhaus

Schießhaus is an architectural structure in Weimar featuring a rectangular main building with a semicircular wing overlooking the Ilm Valley. The complex contains multiple halls and arcade spaces designed to take advantage of its scenic location.

Duke Carl August acquired the land in 1786 and appointed architect Heinrich Gentz to design the building. Construction took place over several years before the structure opened as a cultural gathering place in the early 1800s.

The establishment hosts conferences, seminars, concerts, exhibitions, and family celebrations in its grand hall, which accommodates up to 330 people.

The building offers multiple halls of varying sizes and outdoor spaces for different types of gatherings. Parking is available on the grounds, and the venue is easily accessible for visitors arriving by car or public transit.

Goethe played a direct role in planning this location and helped ensure its design fit naturally with the surrounding landscape. His involvement reflects how closely arts and urban development were connected in Weimar during that era.
