Boyneburg und Schickeberg is a protected nature reserve near Sontra and Ringgau spanning about 292 hectares of diverse habitats including beech forests, limestone cliffs, and mixed mountain woodlands. The area is crossed by walking routes that allow visitors to explore the variety of this landscape on foot.
The area contains ruins of the medieval Boyneburg fortress, which served to control imperial estates during the early medieval period. This fortification was an important point in the territorial administration of the region over several centuries.
