Boyneburg

Boyneburg is a castle ruin situated on a hilltop near Sontra, spread across a large fortified area. The remaining structures include parts of the main residential tower, stone walls, and the foundations of a chapel.

The castle was first documented in 1107 and was destroyed by royal order before being rebuilt. During the 12th century it served as an important administrative center for the surrounding region.

The site is freely accessible with paths that let you explore the ruins from different angles. Sturdy footwear is recommended since the ground is uneven and some slopes are steep.
