Schützenpark

Schützenpark is an urban green space in the Südfriedhof neighborhood, stretching over a long distance and divided into distinct sections by several crossing streets. The area offers meadows for relaxation, play equipment for children, and a pond in the lower part.

The site was created in the early 1900s to replace a former grounds that served as a shooting range since medieval times. This change transformed the location into a modern recreational area for the expanding city.

The park's name comes from the shooting range that once occupied this land. Today, visitors walk and relax here without thinking about that earlier function.

The park offers different pathways for walking and exploring, with a special traffic education area for children at the northeastern end. It is best accessed on foot or by bicycle since the elongated layout makes it easy to navigate.

A World War II bunker lies beneath the park and was converted into music rehearsal rooms after the war ended. This hidden structure shows how the conflict shaped the city, though most visitors never spot it.
