Moorteichwiese, City park in Südfriedhof district, Kiel, Germany.
Moorteichwiese is a city park in Kiel that spreads between Königsweg and Theodor-Heuss-Ring with open lawns and a small pond at its heart. The Winterbeker Lauf stream runs through the grounds, creating a natural feature that shapes how the space feels as you walk through it.
The park took its current form between 1905 and 1908 when landscape gardener Ferdinand August Wilhelm Hurtzig oversaw major redesign work. It first appeared in written records in the 1938 Kiel address book.
The green space serves as the venue for the annual Mut-Lauf event since 2017, bringing together community members for outdoor activities.
You can enter from Johann-Meyer-Straße or Königsweg, with recently improved paths and accessibility features that make walking through the space easier. The renovated entrance areas help orient you when you first arrive.
The site holds a pond with a small island in its center, creating an intriguing focal point within the grounds. The banks remain thickly vegetated, which naturally limits how close visitors can get to the water's edge.
