Slagelse Municipality, Municipality in Region Zealand, Denmark
Slagelse Municipality is an administrative region on western Zealand in Denmark with Slagelse city as its main center. The area spans 571 square kilometers and connects to the mainland through the Great Belt Bridge.
The municipality formed in 2007 through the merger of four previous administrative regions: Slagelse, Hashøj, Korsør, and Skælskør. This fusion created a larger administrative area to organize services more efficiently.
The region contains the Viking fortress Trelleborg and the ruins of Antvorskov Monastery, which now house museums and historical exhibitions that reflect the area's past.
The region is served by comprehensive public transportation, including direct railway connections to Copenhagen and other major Danish cities. This good connectivity makes it easy to travel to larger towns or explore the area as a visitor.
The municipality includes three inhabited islands - Omø, Agersø, and Glænø - that each maintain their own ecosystems and ways of living. These islands are accessible to visitors and offer insight into traditional lifestyles.
