Hotel Marselis, Danish hotel
Hotel Marselis is a lodging facility on the coast of Aarhus, situated on a hilltop overlooking the bay and designed to follow the natural slope of the land. The building contains 163 rooms with large bay-facing windows, a swimming pool, a waterfront restaurant, conference spaces, and a bar.
The hotel opened in 1967 after the local community spent decades planning a place for visitors in the forests near the coast. In 2001 it was purchased by Helnan Hotels and subsequently expanded, adding a fourth wing and modern conference facilities.
The name references the Marseille shipping route that once connected Aarhus to broader European trade. Today the hotel serves as a gathering place for celebrations and conferences, shaping how locals and visitors experience the coastal area.
The hotel is located on Strandvejen in Aarhus and combines a quiet, natural setting with easy access to the city. The friendly staff is available to help with room reservations, local information, event planning, and any other guest requests.
Architects Friis & Moltke designed the building in brutalist style using handmade coffee-brown bricks, no two of which are identical. The thick walls with their distinctive round corridor windows show the strength of this construction approach and give the hotel a distinctive character.
