Guelma

Guelma is an administrative center in its namesake district in northeastern Algeria, situated at 256 meters elevation and functioning as a regional connection point. The town features a mix of industrial facilities and craft workshops that shape its everyday economic life.

The town began as a Phoenician settlement called Malaca but was reshaped into the important Roman city of Calama within the province of Numidia. This ancient past continues to shape the understanding of local history today.

The El-Atik Mosque from 1837 shapes the religious life of the town and displays Islamic architecture that has evolved over generations. Its presence in the cityscape reminds visitors daily of the community's spiritual roots.
