Pont Sidi M'Cid, Suspension bridge in Constantine, Algeria
The Sidi M'Cid Bridge stretches 164 meters across the Rhumel River gorge, connecting the Casbah district with the university medical center in Constantine.
French engineer Ferdinand Arnodin supervised the bridge construction from 1908 to 1912, introducing modern engineering techniques to North African infrastructure.
The Monument of the Dead stands near the bridge entrance, replicating the design of Timgad's Arch of Trajan to honor Constantine's World War I casualties.
The bridge structure, supported by twelve cables, accommodates both vehicular and pedestrian traffic with a width of 5.70 meters and a load capacity of 17 tons.
From its completion in 1912 until 1929, the bridge held the record as the highest bridge in the world, suspended 175 meters above the river valley.
