St. Michael's Convent, Medieval monastery in Vanalinn, Estonia
St. Michael's Convent stands in the heart of Tallinn's medieval district, featuring substantial stone walls and traditional ecclesiastical architecture with heavy vaulting.
The building transitioned from a Swedish congregation site to a Russian garrison church after the Great Northern War in 1710, when Estonia became part of Russia.
The convent maintains connections to the Estonian-Swedish community, representing centuries of Nordic religious influence in the Baltic region.
Following restoration work in 2002, the convent returned to active religious service and accepts visitors interested in medieval religious architecture.
The interior contains a baroque altar created by Joachim Armbrust and a baptistery by Christian Ackermann, exemplifying Estonian religious craftsmanship.
