Shallalat Gardens

Shallalat Gardens is a landscaped park in Alexandria that covers approximately 8 acres and features three lakes, water channels, rolling hills, and varied plant life. Multiple pathways wind through the grounds, connecting different sections with seating areas and water features positioned throughout.

The park was designed in the early 1900s by American landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted. Its grounds preserve sections of Alexandria's ancient city walls and underground water cisterns that date from earlier periods.

This place serves as a gathering spot where families spend their free time together, reflecting its role in the daily life of Alexandria's residents. You can observe people walking the grounds, sitting by the water, and enjoying the open spaces throughout the day.

The park is located in the Bab Sharq district and is open daily with no entrance fee. The multiple pathways are easy to walk, with shaded seating areas and water features spaced throughout for rest and exploration.

Beneath the park lies an ancient underground cistern containing rare architectural elements such as original columns and capitals from different historical periods. This hidden structure reveals engineering techniques from centuries past and is often overlooked by visitors who stay on the surface.
