Bourse Toussoun

Bourse Toussoun is a cultural center in Alexandria featuring neoclassical design with grand columns and symmetrical facades along Rue de Rosette. The building displays refined architectural details typical of its construction period and stands as a notable landmark in the old city district.

The structure was built in 1888 and originally served as the headquarters of the Alexandria Exchange. A pivotal moment came in 1896 when the venue hosted Egypt's first cinema screening, marking a milestone in the country's cultural and media history.

The building now serves as a cultural palace where art exhibitions, performances, and workshops take place regularly. Locals and travelers use the spaces to discover and appreciate contemporary Egyptian art and creative expression.

During construction in 1886, workers discovered remains of a Ptolemaic temple beneath the foundation of the building. This archaeological finding shows how ancient and modern layers of history converge at this location.
