Coves dels Hams, Show cave in Porto Cristo, Manacor, Spain.
Coves dels Hams is a cave system in Porto Cristo featuring twelve interconnected galleries with limestone formations shaped like fishhooks. At its heart lies an underground lake known as the Sea of Venice, which flows through the different chambers of the network.
Pedro Caldentey discovered the cave in 1905 and brought electrical lighting to these underground passages, making it a landmark achievement in cave electrification. This early installation became the foundation for tourism that continues to draw visitors to the site.
Daily musical performances take place here, with musicians navigating the underground lake in small boats while playing classical compositions. These live performances happen right inside the cave system, creating a unique experience that blends music with the natural setting.
Visitors are led through approximately 500 meters of cave passages in a tour lasting around 40 minutes. Guides who speak multiple languages explain the rock formations along the way, making it easier to understand the geology.
Inside the cave sits an auditorium where a multimedia film called Genesis is projected onto rock walls, depicting the evolution from the Big Bang to modern times. This presentation blends cutting-edge technology with the natural cave environment.
