Embalse de Trasona, dam in Trasona, Corvera, Asturias
Embalse de Trasona is a water reservoir in Corvera de Asturias, Spain, fed by the Alvarés and Narcea rivers. The waters cover roughly 61 hectares and are held back by a concrete gravity-type dam standing about 16 meters high.
The reservoir was built in 1957 by the steel company Ensidesa to supply water to the steel mill near Avilés. Over time, it shifted from being purely industrial infrastructure to a space serving recreation and sports.
The reservoir has become a gathering place where locals and visitors enjoy water sports and outdoor activities together. It represents how an industrial structure has transformed into a space where communities gather to relax and practice recreation in contact with nature.
The site is easily accessible by road AS-17 from Nubledo and has two recreational zones called Overo and Gavitos for visitors. It works well for water sports and walking, with modern facilities supporting activities like canoeing and fishing.
The reservoir hosted the European Canoeing Championship in 2010 and continues to draw athletes from various countries today. The sports facility was specially modernized to support international competitions with automated start systems and spectator seating.
