Alcázar

The Alcázar is an archaeological site in Úbeda with excavated medieval walls, streets, and residential buildings that reveal how the city developed over time. The exposed structures show where people lived, worked, and moved through daily life across different centuries.

The Alcázar was initially built as a military fortress and served different rulers across centuries. The site experienced multiple reconstructions and major changes until it eventually fell into decline and was later studied through archaeological excavation.

The site displays pottery and household objects from different periods that tell the story of how various communities lived together over centuries. These artifacts reveal details about crafts, daily routines, and the ways people adapted to changes in their surroundings.

Wear comfortable shoes when visiting, as the paths across the site are uneven and often exposed to the sun. Bring a hat and water, especially during warmer months, to make your visit more enjoyable.

Beneath the medieval layers lie traces of much older settlements, including evidence of farming from prehistoric times. These deeper finds show that people returned to this location repeatedly over thousands of years.
