Nuestra Señora del Agavanzal Dam, stuwmeer in Zamora, Spanje
Nuestra Señora del Agavanzal Dam is a water reservoir spanning the Tera River in Zamora Province, covering approximately 360 hectares when full. The concrete gravity dam measures about 42 meters in height and 480 meters across, holding up to 36 million cubic meters of water for irrigation and hydroelectric power generation.
The dam was constructed and completed in 1994 to manage water flow on the Tera River and control seasonal flooding and drought. Since then it has provided water for irrigation and generated hydroelectric power for the surrounding region.
The area around the dam can be explored on foot through nearby trails and paths that offer views of the structure and water. Visitors should expect variable weather conditions and bring appropriate clothing, particularly during cooler months.
The dam generates approximately 19 megawatts of electricity for the surrounding region through its hydroelectric facilities. It also plays a critical role in regulating river flow and preventing downstream flooding during periods of heavy rainfall or snowmelt.
