Torre de Trafalgar, Military watchtower in Barbate, Spain
The Torre de Trafalgar stands on a raised position at the southwestern end of Cape Trafalgar, next to the lighthouse of the same name.
Felipe II commissioned this watchtower in the 16th century as part of a coastal defense system against Berber pirates attacking Spanish shores.
Archaeological excavations near the tower revealed remains of a Roman temple dedicated to Juno and a fish salting factory from ancient times.
The interior chamber of the tower contains a circular room with a hemispherical vault, divided into two levels by wooden flooring.
Seven skylights in the structure provide natural illumination to both levels of the tower through strategically placed openings.
