Poblado Minero de Peña del Seo, Mining community in Cadafresnas and Corullón, Spain.
The Poblado Minero de Peña del Seo is an abandoned mining settlement perched in the mountains of Corullón. The site comprises roughly 40 stone structures arranged in an orderly pattern, each built to house a mining family with basic rooms for living and sleeping.
The settlement was established in 1952 following tungsten discoveries in the region. Mining operations continued for only a few years before the site fell into abandonment.
The settlement reflects how the mining community organized daily life around the extraction work, with uniform stone houses designed to house workers and their families. Today, the ruins show how industrial labor shaped the spatial layout and social structure of remote mountain settlements.
Access to the settlement follows a rough mountain track starting from Cadafresnas. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and come prepared for variable weather in the higher elevation location.
The houses included central heating and electric power, making them comfortable for their time. These modern conveniences were uncommon in mining settlements of the era and suggest the operation was valuable enough to warrant investment in worker housing.
