Sima del Elefante

Located in the Atapuerca mountain range, Sima del Elefante consists of multiple sedimentary layers containing prehistoric human and animal remains.

The site revealed a human jawbone dating back 1.2 million years, representing one of the earliest human fossils discovered in western Europe.
