Palacio de Ustáriz, 18th-century palace in Madrid, Spain.
The Palacio de Ustáriz is an 18th-century palace in Madrid with a rectangular footprint, three stories, and a classical Baroque facade facing Calle de San Mateo. The building shares its block with a central garden and once included a southern wing for service areas that has since been removed.
This aristocratic residence began construction in 1748 under Casimiro de Ustáriz, the first Marquis of Ustáriz. The building underwent major renovations in 1878 and was later converted to serve as headquarters for an investment firm after extensive restoration work completed in 2020.
The palace entrance displays paired coats of arms from the Maldonado and Salabert families, showing the noble connections tied to the building over time. These symbols represent the different aristocratic lineages that shaped the residence through the centuries.
The building is not open to the public as it now serves as an investment firm headquarters, but its facade can be viewed from the street. The best view of the palace can be appreciated from Calle de San Mateo, where the classical architecture is clearly visible.
The palace shares its city block with a central garden, creating a green space within the urban surroundings. This garden is unusual for such a densely built area and gives the residence a peaceful setting amidst Madrid's busy streets.
