Museum of Romanticism, Art museum in central Madrid, Spain.
The Museum of Romanticism occupies a palace from the late 1700s and displays furniture, paintings, and decorative objects from the 1800s across two floors. The collection includes works by Spanish artists and rooms that recreate how the upper classes lived in Madrid during that period.
Benigno de la Vega-Inclán founded the museum in 1924 to preserve the art and lifestyle of the Romantic period. It received its current name as Museo Nacional del Romanticismo in 2009 through a Council of Ministers decree.
This building shows daily life for well-off families in 19th-century Madrid, with salons, bedrooms, and a dining room furnished with objects from that time. The rooms convey how life felt during the Romantic era, when music and literature shaped social gatherings.
The museum opens longer hours from May through October and shorter hours from November through April. Rooms are accessible by staircase, and the building sits on a quiet street in central Madrid.
The garden with magnolias forms four intersecting paths with different tree species and a fountain at the center. This outdoor space houses the museum café and offers a green retreat in the middle of the city.
