Palacio del Conde de Villagonzalo, Madrid, Residential palace in Centro district, Madrid, Spain
Palacio del Conde de Villagonzalo is a residential palace located in Madrid's central Justicia district, occupying multiple addresses on three different streets. The building forms a substantial urban block with interconnected sections that together create a notable architectural presence.
Construction of the palace started in 1862 under architect Juan de Madrazo y Kuntz and was completed in 1866. The building underwent significant renovation in 1916 by Antonio Ferreras Posadillo.
The building represents a prime example of Spanish rationalist architecture from the late 19th century, incorporating design elements influenced by French architect Viollet-le-Duc.
The palace functions as an event venue for product launches, film productions, and press conferences. Access is typically arranged for scheduled events rather than casual walk-in visits.
The palace displays a contemporary art installation called Waterfall by Studio Daniel Canogar, featuring cascading LED screens that visualize global trade data. This modern addition creates an interesting contrast with the historic architecture.
