Monument to Castelar, Group of sculptures at Paseo de la Castellana, Madrid, Spain
The Monument to Castelar stands 12 meters tall and combines bronze, marble, limestone, and granite materials in a complex sculptural arrangement.
The Spanish State initiated this monument through public contributions from 1,000 institutions across Spain, Mexico, Argentina, France, England, and Italy.
Three bronze figures representing a worker, soldier, and student climb stairs near the central statue, reflecting social sectors of Spanish society.
The monument occupies the center of Glorieta de Emilio Castelar roundabout, making it visible from multiple angles of Paseo de la Castellana.
The back section displays a bronze relief depicting the abolition of slavery with figures breaking chains, accompanied by Castelar's speech in gold letters.
