Mount Fentale

Mount Fentale is a stratovolcano located in a national park within Ethiopia's Oromia region and rises to roughly 2000 meters elevation. Its summit features a deep crater that reveals the age and power of this geological formation.

The mountain was documented in 1842 by a British explorer who collected local accounts of volcanic activity in the area. This historical record serves as one of the few written sources about the volcano's recent activity.

The local communities have lived alongside this volcano for generations and understand its behavior through their own experience. They incorporate knowledge of the mountain into their daily lives and connection to the landscape.

The best time to visit is early morning or evening when volcanic activity is easier to observe. Sturdy hiking boots and plenty of water are essential, as the terrain is dry and often rocky.

The lava fields surrounding the mountain stretch across wide areas and appear like frozen waves of black stone. This landscape creates a sharp contrast with the green plains spreading around it.
