Liévin, Administrative commune in Pas-de-Calais, France
Located in northern France, Liévin extends across an area characterized by former mining sites with an elevation of 57 meters above sea level.
The discovery of coal deposits in 1857 transformed Liévin from a small settlement into an industrial center, leading to rapid population growth throughout the 19th century.
The Festival Arts et Feu during the Fêtes de la Sainte Barbe maintains the mining heritage through performances and displays throughout the city streets.
The city contains three colleges, twenty-two elementary schools, four high schools, and twenty-seven general practitioners serving its 30,149 residents.
In September 2024, Liévin will welcome 40,000 visitors for the Cyclo-Cross World Championship, marking its position in international sports competitions.
