Lighthouse at the End of the World, Replica lighthouse in La Rochelle, France

The octagonal wooden lighthouse rises above the port of Minimes, serving as a guiding light for vessels navigating the coastal waters of La Rochelle.

Built in 2000 by adventurer André Bronner, this structure replicates the original lighthouse constructed in 1859 in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina.

The lighthouse project emerged from a French-Argentine collaboration, promoting international connections through shared maritime architectural heritage between both nations.

Visitors can observe the lighthouse during boat excursions departing from La Rochelle port, with tours available throughout the navigation season.

The structure functions as the only French reproduction of the Argentine lighthouse that inspired Jules Verne's novel The Lighthouse at the End of the World.

The Most Beautiful Lighthouses in France

Maritime lighthouses guiding ships along the coasts of metropolitan France. Stone, granite, and limestone towers rise on capes, islands, and peninsulas. These historical structures, dating from the 17th to 20th century, ensure maritime navigation. Notable lighthouses include Cordouan, the oldest active lighthouse in France, and Île Vierge, the highest stone structure in Europe. Some are positioned at sea, like La Jument and La Vieille, others on the coast like Eckmühl with its 307 steps. These lighthouses demonstrate French maritime engineering.
