The resort was founded in 1962 and developed from a small mountain station into a major winter sports center in the Jura region. As interest in the area grew, more lift systems and trails were added to serve increasing visitor numbers.
The villages around the slopes are known for their dairy farming heritage, and local eating places serve regional dishes featuring Comté cheese and other Jura specialties from nearby producers.
