Tour du Suquet

Tour du Suquet is a square medieval tower standing on a hill in the oldest district of Cannes, which dominates the original heart of the city. Its interior has been adapted as a museum to display local crafts and cultural heritage, with windows and crenellations marking its outer structure.

The tower was built on the initiative of monks from the nearby island of Lérins to protect the coastal settlement but took centuries to complete. Its structure shows different building phases, and it was later adapted for other uses before becoming a cultural center.

The tower forms the core of Suquet, where old houses cluster around it through narrow streets that keep the neighborhood's original layout intact. Visitors can sense how the city functioned in earlier times and how closely people lived together.

The tower is reached through narrow cobbled streets that climb the hill, so comfortable shoes are essential and visitors should allow time for the steep walk. The internal staircase is tight and steep, so a slow pace is needed and good light helps when exploring the rooms.

Over the centuries the tower served as a prison and factory before becoming accessible to the public, reflecting its varied past. These changes in use left marks on the structure that visitors today can still discover if they look carefully.
