CHQ Building, Industrial warehouse in Dublin, Ireland.

The CHQ Building is a former warehouse at Custom House Quay in Dublin, constructed with cast iron frames and brick walls. Today it houses retail shops, restaurants, a museum about emigration, and a technology startup hub for different businesses.

A Scottish engineer designed this structure in 1820 as a storage facility for tea, tobacco, wine, and trading goods. Over time it shifted from serving solely as a warehouse to housing multiple functions within its walls.

The building now hosts restaurants and cultural institutions that draw people from across the city together. You can experience both heritage and contemporary life side by side within its brick walls.

The site sits right along the docks and is easy to reach from the city center. Visitors will find restaurants for eating, shops for shopping, and museums to explore all in one location.

The building was constructed without using wood, instead thick glass lenses were placed in the floors to light the wine vaults below. This clever approach allowed daylight to reach the underground storage spaces.
