Tomb of Salabat Khan II, Monument of National Importance on hilltop in Ahmednagar, India

The Tomb of Salabat Khan II is a three-story stone structure with an octagonal base sitting on a hilltop at around 3,080 feet elevation. Each level features continuous galleries, and pointed arches define the exterior of the entire building.

The tomb was built for a high court official who served during the second half of the 16th century under the Nizam Shah dynasty. Its construction reflects the building style of the Dekkan Sultanates that held significant power in the region at that time.

The design shows Islamic building traditions through its octagonal base and galleries that wrap around each level. The open arches and windows are positioned to frame the landscape and allow evening light to filter through the interior spaces.

The monument sits about 13 kilometers from Ahmednagar city center and is best reached by private vehicle. Plan around two hours to explore the structure, especially if you want to visit the upper levels.

Hidden within the walls is a narrow staircase leading to the upper floors that brings visitors to points where they can see across the entire city of Ahmednagar below. This secret route reveals unexpected vantage points and shows how deliberately the building was designed to connect interior spaces with views outward.
